This moment right here. This moment where Korra is willing to give up her very life for the world? Because she thinks she isn’t the avatar anymore. She can only airbend, something she was so proud of the moment it happened, something that helped defeat Amon, in the end, and Korra is willing to give it all up.
She had just found out the guy she loves loves her back. She just got to see her parents, she got to know that everyone else would be alright without her. She had always been willing to give up her life for the world.
And sometimes, sacrifice isn’t only for those moments when action is happening. Sometimes sacrifice is about quietly doing what needs to be done. Korra thought she had to sacrifice herself because she couldn’t ever master the avatar state without the other element.
This wasn’t a cop-out. This wasn’t about just giving the fandom Korra in the avatar state because we wanted it. This was just showing that sacrifice isn’t just about doing what’s right in a fight. Korra’s lowest point isn’t self-doubt or feeling worthless.
Korra’s lowest point was knowing having to face her own limitations as a human being, and trying to overcome them the only way she knew how. Her [possible] suicide attempt wasn’t because of her self-esteem. It was because she thought it was the only way to make sure the world was safe from this sort of thing happening again.
